by a traveler in the 80s),

* Shiva Nataraja is a representation of the God Shiva, one of the principal gods of Hinduism, as the « king of the cosmic dance. » The sculpture shows Shiva
dancing in a circle of fire, symbolizing creation, conservation
and the destruction of the universe. He also holds sacred symbols, such as a damaru (drum) and fire, in his hands. Shiva’s dance is considered
an expression of his victory over ignorance and illusion. The sculpture of Shiva Nataraja is considered one of the masterpieces of sculptural art in India
and is often worshipped as a symbol of supreme deity.
