☸ Buddha Amulet at Gazelle Park – Dharmachakra Pravartana

This red clay amulet embodies one of the founding moments of Buddhism: the first sermon of the historical Buddha , known as the Dharmachakra Pravartana Sūtra , given at the Sarnath Gazelle Park . This sermon marks the setting in motion of the Wheel of Dharma and the beginning of the transmission of the Teaching.

The front side features the Buddha sitting in meditation, in a serene posture, beneath the sacred tree, surrounded by disciples or animal symbols. The relief, though modest, is rich in symbolism. On the reverse, a magic square engraved in khom letters (ancient sacred alphabet) reinforces the protective and spiritual aspect of the object.

This amulet, from a now unidentified temple, is one of the sacred objects transmitted for the study, protection and meditation on the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
