Iron mala of Mahasiddha Thangtong Gyalpo.


These malas are composed of 30% iron from links
of one of the famous Chakzampa (Iron Bridge) built almost
600 years ago by the Mahasiddha Thangtong Gyalpo (1385-1509).

Iron malas are mentioned in Guru Rinpoche’s texts as being very conducive to protector practices,
and more specifically for the practice of Chana Dorje (Vajrapani).

Nowadays, iron malas are very rarely found in Nepal,
but they are still quite popular in Mongolia.

These malas are very precious relics, which provide a direct link
with one of the most extraordinary Masters of the Tibetan tantric tradition.

With time and use, iron malas develop a beautiful dark patina
(they rust on the surface and should be rubbed from time to time
with sand and oiled; the patina develops gradually).
