These rare talismans, nicknamed « Grandfather Coconut » (มะพร้าวปู่), come from the shamanic tradition of Isan, a region in northeastern Thailand. Made from coconut shells (actually « Look Tan » to be precise) carved and adorned with natural fibers, they embody the protective spirit of an ancestor watching over the house and its inhabitants.
Crafted by a respected Ajarn elder from Sri Saket province, these powerful objects are designed to ward off evil spirits, illness, and misfortune. Suspended in a home or above an entrance, they form an invisible barrier against negative influences and ensure prosperity in the home.
Each piece is unique, hand-carved from natural coconut. Expressions vary from one « grandfather » to the next, making it as much a collectible as it is a powerful protective talisman.
the magic of the Buddha
The talisman มะพร้าวปู่ acts as an ancestral guardian. It protects against wandering spirits, jealousy, and harmful energies, while promoting family stability and prosperity. In local beliefs, the ancestor spirit « Pu » watches over the house day and night, warding off misfortune.
An ancient breath inhabits these sculpted faces: the voice of Isan ancestors, invisible guardians of the home. Hanging a « Grandfather Coconut » is inviting the wisdom of the elders and their silent protection to watch over your home.
